Mudda’s Day

Published by bakerymybakery under Uncategorized

Mudda's Day

Sunday was the day we honor that amazing woman who pushed us out into the world . . . complete with all we need (and an extra pair of underware). The odd ritual of taking mom out for brunch and lavishing her with homemade cards and gifts is quite charming and yet . . . probably not ideally the “dream day” for her.

I awoke early and began my decent to the kitchen (read coffee) only to be met with my adoring husband . . . “Get back in Bed” . . . ah . . . the obligatory breakfast in bed was still in the prep phase. Great.

The day was then spent cleaning, scrubbing, caulking . . . since we decided to have an open house . . . yes, sometimes we are so smart . . . and ended with my hubby boarding a plane and the kids and I eating at a local restaurant . . . not my best . . . but eh . . .

I will say that ever since finding the Kaboodle site . . . my presents have SO improved. Check it out . . . it’s Kaboodle . . . a place where you can keep a “wish list” and hubby and others can always know what you really desire (materialistically speaking that is).

I didn’t bake . . but I did manage to buy myself my favorites . . . spray roses ($4.99) . . . in my jelly jars . . .

The Cookie Table

Published by bakerymybakery under Uncategorized

Okay . . . so according to my last post where I mentioned the “Cookie Table” . . . many of you are confused . . . and have never experienced this amazing bounty. So . . . I will attempt to explain further.

First, you must click on the hyperlink associated with the word . . . COOKIE TABLE. And yes, it might be coincidence that Liz Norha is my cousin . . . maybe it is a YOUNGSTOWN thing??? Which is not a bad thing . . . at least we lay claim to something delicious and not just the mob.

Here is a quote from the article . . .

“Cookies are not the only sustenance at weddings, though. A typical wedding menu in northeastern Ohio might include “rigs and meatballs” (rigatoni and meatballs), “drenched” salad (greens covered in dressing, usually Italian), green bean almondine, some kind of chicken, roast beef or pork tenderloin and white potatoes with parsley. And, of course, there’s wedding cake, though it must compete with the cookie table for attention.

“I think the wedding cake is eaten less and less, and people choose cookies over the cake,” Nohra says.

In the so-called “Buckeye State,” Buckeye cookies are the centerpiece of the table and always disappear first. Other must-haves are “clothespin” cookies (we call them ladylocks), iced Italian “wedding cookies,” Peanut Butter Blossoms (the ones with Hershey’s kisses) kolache (rolled nut loaf) and pizzelles (the crispy flat cookie made in a special iron).

“You see a lot of the same cookies at Christmas as you see at weddings — cooking on a mass scale,” Nohra says. “Mahoning Valley likes to eat.”

By Suzanne Martinson, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

So now . . . you fully comprehend the importance of THE COOKIE TABLE. sheez . . .

But now . . since I’ve discovered that many don’t understand or have never experience the phenomenon down here in the south . . maybe I should re-think the name . . THE COOKIE TABLE for my bakery??? hmmm . . . suggestions???

Playdough and The Cookie Table

Published by bakerymybakery under cookie table

From the time I can remember . . . in our basement on RonJoy . . . we each had a “store” and made our items out of playdough. Shell’s was jewelry, David made . . something? not sure he was really old enough to make anything really good. . . and of course mine was a Bakery.

I would spend hours dreaming up different types of cookies, cakes and pies . . . all from playdough of course. I would have dreams at night about how to attract more customers and designing a new bag or box to put them in. I was obsessed with having a bakery.

I remembered I asked for an easy bake oven when I was 8. I loved baking and cooking and watching people cook. Luckily coming from an ethnic family . . . I had lots of access to amazing cooks. Christmas was always my favorite. It wasn’t because of the presents . . it was because of the cookies.

Every different house would have a different selection of homemade goodies to displayed exquisitely on trays low enough for me to have access to. And I always wondered why they only would bake at Christmas. Of course then there were the weddings. Oh how I loved to go to the weddings of all my cousins. Weddings were so different in Youngstown. They lasted a whole week and all the kids were invited. But the best . . . was the cookie table . . . oh . . that cookie table was heaven for me.

The aunts would spend months baking their specialty cookies for the wedding and then set the cookies out for display on a separate table. . . . yes, there was wedding cake . . . and I’m sure it was good too . . . but OH the cookies . . . . those heavenly little bites of orgasmic delight . . .

The best part was everyone was allowed to take a paper plate and take a sample home wrapped in a napkin . . . . they just don’t do it that way anymore . . .or at least I haven’t been to a wedding lately???

Anyway, Why not . . you ask . . why haven’t you opened this amazing bakery??Ah . . . friend . . . you see . . . I currently have a few obstacles . . . you know . . . I really don’t know . . . I mean . . . I have lists and lists of obstacles but . . . it will happen . . soon I hope . .

We all know this “fakery” wouldn’t make any money for a while and it simply fulfilling my desire to provide nirvana for my fellow man and woman . . . and the child . . . in all of us.So . . . if you are reading this . . . and you share my dream . . . listen . . . I won’t fail . . . I’ve been trained by Walt Disney World and bake like no body’s business. I just need the cashola . . the cha chinga . . the moolah, the cabbage, the green . . . the wampum . . . the chips . . dinero . . . you get where I’m coming from?
